| Shrimp
flies are excellent early-season patterns to use. Shrimp are a staple food
of many of South Jersey’s saltwater estuary fish species, and they are
present year-round. This fly can be hopped off the bottom in short strips,
swam through the water with short or long strips, or allowed to dead-drift
through productive spots. It can be tied with dumbbell eyes (as shown) for
presentations near the bottom or for a more pronounced “hop” in the
water, or with bead-chain eyes for less “hop” in the water, or even
with mono eyes for surface or slow sinking dead-drifting in a chum slick. |
