Hi-Tie Peanut Bunker

Tying Instructions by Frank Mihalic
Start the thread on the hook shank at about one quarter inch behind the hooks eye.
Starting on the bottom of the hook shank, tie the center of a full length of blend with several raps of thread. Do not let the material roll on the hook shank
Fold the forward facing material back so that all material now faces away from the eye. Add some wraps of thread. Separate the material with a bodkin and let the hooks point come through the material.

On top of the shank, perform the steps exactly as in the previous step directly on top of the bottom wraps.. Try adding a bit of darker color on top.
Moving slightly forward on the bottom of the shank, tie in a slightly sparser bunch of material exactly as in the first bunches. I like to add a bit of pink to the belly of my bunker patterns.
On top of the shank, again tie in a bunch of material as you did below. Add a bit of darker color.
On the bottom of the shank, tie in a short length of pink blend using the modified Hi-Tie technique.
Add a final sparse bunch of darker color material on top of the hook shank again, using the modified Hi-Tie technique. Whip finish. Remove the fly from the vice and gently comb through to blend the materials. Use long bladed scissors to trim the body to shape.
With the fly in the vice, flip it over so that the hook point is facing up. Take an eye on your bodkin and place the eye even with the shank so as to not close the hook gape. After both eyes are on, squeeze the slightly so that the top hair will be held up providing the desired profile when glued in place
If Desired, add a few “bunker dots” with a permanent marker. I can make a fish out of hair, but I can’t make a circle, so I resort to a Popsicle stick with a drilled hole to make a perfect spot every time.
Use an injector bottle filled with clear PlastiDip and fill the cavity between the eyes covering the front of each eye slightly less than half way Wait a few moments for it to set up, and let dry at least a day before you fish your new creation. .
