Featherback Tie
This herring pattern is very easy to tie and simple to fish.  It has a large enough profile in the water to imitate large-sided herring or bunker, or if tied thinner can imitate just about any forage fish.  The heavy short hook serves as a weight so the fly dips slightly in the water, and it rarely fouls.  Fish it with a steady or jigging retrieve, or dead drifted along the bottom.
Materials:
Hook:  Heavy Gauge Short Shank
Thread:  Nylon Monocord
Belly:  Marabou Blood Quills
Body:  Saddle Hackles, various colors
Back:  Peacock Herl
Flash:  Pearl Flashabou Mirage
Eyes:  Flat Mylar
