communication of saltwater fly fishing"

Tying Instructions by Frank Mihalic
1: Start the thread near the hook eye and cover the entire
hook shank with thread back to the bend.
Tie a bunch of
bucktail at the rear of the hook shank. Add a drop of Zap A Gap.
2: Tie in Cactus Chenille at
the rear of the thread.
3:Wind the cactus chenille around the shank extending past the
bucktail wraps. To little chenille will move the head to far rearward,
closing the hook gape. When tying off the chenille, wrap an oversized bump
of thread to stop the head from sliding down the hooks shank. Continue to
wrap the shank to the eye. Whip finish. Coat the thread with a bit of
cement and let it dry well.
4: Heat a bodkin with a
lighter until hot. Sear a hole through the foam cylinder as in the foam
body in the lower right of this picture. The hole can be placed through
the center of the body, or near the bottom.
5: Cut a piece of
Witchcraft tape to length so that it will wrap the foam cylinder one and
one half times around. Remove the backing from the tape and lay the tape
flat. Line up the foam body and roll it along the tape while pressing
firmly and rolling it away from you. This pic shows a taped cylinder(left),
a cylinder that has been colored with markers (center), and the colored
cylinder after it has been covered with pearl halo form tape.
Trim the tape with scissors. Trim the length of the head to
fit between the thread bump and the eye.
6: Insert the hook eye
through the hole in the foam cylinder. Push the cylinder while twisting
until the head is in proper position.
7: Pick up a prismatic stick
on eye with your bodkin and crease it in half, bending it. Attach an eye
on each side of the head.

Top water fishing provides the most
exciting strike, we can all agree? Striped Bass are very fond of a popping
bug chugging along a grassy edge in the low light of Dawn and Dusk. Bass
often slap the popper...
